    What is the responsibility of a Designer? Is it to just pump out minor changes of the same old product? Or is there an implied larger responsibility to re-think the service provided by the product and innovate a solution better suited to the demands of the moment?

    When should this initiaitve occur?  Plenty of examples abound of objects/products re-designed marginally until someone else displaced the service entierly – I.e. Typwriters, corded phones, buggy whips, on and on…
