The history of Unions in the United States stretches back to Samuel Gompers founding of the American Federation of Labor in 1886. At the time working conditions were abysmal and organizing was the best way to affect change.

Today, unions continue to play a strong role in the manufacturing sphere and are vehement advocates for fair trade policies, re-shoring and sustainable manufacturing.
